Over 1,300 people attended Diwali Function on 18 October 2009 to celebrate the Diwali and Hindu New Year. This was one of the biggest gatherings in recent years with higher number of youngters. The celebrations started in early with people meeting and greeting family and friends as they arrived.
After the prayers the President, Babubhai Makadia, addressed the gathering. He highlighted two projects in the coming year which are Youth Development and the Dining Hall Extension. He urged the Youth to take more interest in the Samaj and paticipate in youth activities and events as they will play an important role in the future of our Samaj. He also mentioned about the importance of the Dining Hall extension project for the future development of our community. He urged people to donate generously towards this project.
The new website was lauched by Manoj Ardeshna who spoke about the level commitment and dedication of the people in the web team which made it possible to develop our new website in three months. The new website was demostrated by Hiren Aghera which was very well received (click here to read article written by Hiren).
Various traditional compititions were organised and participant took part in traditional compititions such as rangoli, Diwali card making, and Gujarati hand writing and cookery. The Fashion Show participants displayed various traditional and modern Navratri dresses.
After a delicious lunch people settle down for an afternoon entertainment. The popular Bingo game was played which followed by the KPS’s had got talent show. The compitition was judged by Roshini Dadhania, and Nikita Patel accompanied by Honey Kalaria who later spoke about the up coming talent within our community. The winners of the various compitions were announced. The celebrations ended with Convenor’s vote of thanks to volunteers.
